A Datacenter  is a physical place where many machines (often servers ) containing computer data are gathered.

Role of the datacenter

The data centers have a major role in the web world:

• Search engines store data on web pages around the world.
• The websites themselves are often hosted in datacenters.

Companies store employee data on data centers to make them available around the world.

In general, the emergence of the cloud (the famous cloud) is linked to the use of data centers , which store information and make it accessible through an Internet connection to users.

Cloud and datacenters

When we talk about " Cloud ", it is really just a change from a hard drive or physical memory on your machine (computer, tablet, smartphone), to a remote storage located in a datacenter . The beautiful cloud term masks the physical reality that results from it: a massive need for surfaces and energy. Your local hard drive consumes almost no energy, but placing it on a server to make it available via the Internet is something else. Out, datacenters are extremely energy-intensive infrastructures: a serverhas a catastrophic energy efficiency (almost all of its energy is transformed into heat). In addition to the electricity needed to operate the machines, it is necessary to cool them.

 Datacenters, however, have a bright future

With the advent of "Big Data" and digital transformation, the Cloud seems to be taking over the data storage and processing needs . But the Cloud and the Datacenter are rather two complementary systems at the moment. Some companies even choose the two models of data storage according to their needs and means.
